The media has become one of the most corrupt institutions in our society.  They used to have news organizations that would take an biased stance on an issue, and you knew from the start what you were reading.  Now there are media outlets that try to stay in the middle of issues, but fail at doing so.  For instance, Fox news claims to be "Fair and balanced" but i have yet to see an actual liberal leading anything on that program. Fox is extremely conservative.  Even the New York Times has a hard time staying away from the far left.  By creating a liberal or conservative outlet, we receive better coverage, because no one leave out facts that they consider to be "too liberal/conservative".

I find that you don't even have to go far as reading in spanish. The zines and publications at the top of the food chain like economist, christian science, new republic are news worthy. I bet even mexico gets facts from them. They are also pretty nuetral politically. They don't even print authors' names.

It's not that the media is not giving us the truth about what is happening. It's the way they project it to the masses. When Gustav hit the gulf of mexico for example, the media was looking for anything that seemed like devastating damage to the area. If you watched the news for those couple of days, you could see the disappointment of all the reporters. It was like they wanted something worse to happen. The media is biased in the sense that they want something more exciting to report.

To get the full story of events and issues, I suggest reading articles from all over the world. Learn spanish and read what mexico says about issues, or simply go online and look up the bbc network. Their view on issues is different, so they report on different sides of the problems that plague this world. Don't read an article by an American on the Iraq war and think that you know what is happening. Expand your view and expand your knowledge!

I find that I do not pay attention to much of the media enough to decide if I believe it or not
