Traitor Review
Just the other day, I went to go see Traitor, at the new theater at the South center mall. Shout out to Brian Gordon, the one who got me the tickets. Anyway, I had mixed feelings about Traitor. The film is about a Muslim man who gets involved with a terrorist organization, and has to do some things that go against everything he has been taught in his life. Throw in a few plot twists and decent acting and you have traitor.
Although I thought that it was a good movie, worth going to see, there were some things that bogged it down a little. First, I thought that the movie was a bit slow, especially in some of the beginning scenes. There were some times where I felt as if the plot just needed to move on. I Also think that some of the characters in the movie needed more developing. For example, Shamir (Don Cheadle) had a contact on the FBI, which was played by a good actor, but I think that they brushed too lightly on his character and that whole sub-plot. But on the plus side, Don Cheadle (the protagonist in the film) did a really good job. Although he is not deserving of any awards or anything, I have always been a Don Cheadle fan, and he delivered for me again in this movie (for those of you who don't know who Don Cheadle is, Watch Hotel Rwanda). I also feel that the rest of the acting crew, although there were no notable names, did a great job. I would also like to highlight the message of the film. I like the fact that there was a Muslim main character. You certainly don't see that very often. But what really made this movie awesome is the message that it sent. It was sort of a way of saying that not all followers of Islam are terrorists, and that extremists give Muslims a bad name. The line I liked most was when Shamir's ex-girlfriend was talking to a detective and said: "The extremists are the worst enemies of Islam."
All in all, it was a pretty good movie, if you can get past some of the slow parts in the movie, you'll find that it's a great story with a great message.
Until I can find another movie worth reviewing,
