At First the WASL test sounded like a good idea. Children tested on basic principles to make sure they are ready for life. However, the WASL has turned out to test the way children think, not what they know. Also, it is poorly made. When I was taking the test myself, there were random pictures of orcas that did not relate to the story at all. Get rid of the WASL. It is a waste of time and money. Good Luck Naomi!

i hate the WASL but again it's the only way you will know if you are doing good in shcool or bad in schoolMy point exactly...and why the test is not administered throughout the Nation....Naominel - its because its a policy issue decided by the state ( washington state)...making it possible to pass a law ( if youre upto it) banning the wasl as a requirement...all you need is a good following and put pressure on olympia...if it were made say by D.C then my friends youll need Tom Cruise or Oprah to help you.
I partly agree with those that have to deal with seemingly un-necesary tests i dont think its a good idea to throw the test out of the window. i completely agree but the issue here is assessing whether or not students at school are getting an education or should i say "quality" education.Even though i am not directly against the test i am against the idea that it determines whether or not you graduate.I have lived in two countries other than the US and had completely different experiences as per their edu system...all i can say is America has by far (whether you agree or not) the easiest "lax" standards when it comes to education without compromising the quality.
There is no doubt that American students...have it really easy.
Regardless, Im certain there are better ways to go about things than saying:
hey. you need to spend your years as a growing person preparing for, and practicing taking a test that you will take when you are roughly 15 years of age that will determine whether you can graduate.
yes, we know that if you can get in to college you should be able to graduate, and we have other tests we take, but this is the only one that tells you you can graduate.
Another thought of mine. Why is this test standardized for our state, not our nation; given that all states have a test somewhat similar to ours?
exactly my point! why should we have to take thousands of tests some of which are important, and met our brains with stress unneeded stress i might add.. and really SATs and or the ACTs are the only thing colleges and employers are looking for! i failed to get the SATs and acts out of the way because i was busy dealing with the WASL that is not even a priority! i agree.. yes some tests are needed but why so many that do the something..(almost/ or suppose to do the same thing) when we can just have one for specific things! bleck! that's what i say!
I am anti-WASL
I understand that we need standardized testing (while I am not so impressed with that idea either), but most of us already take the PSATs and the SATs or ACTs, so I don't see why that can't judge our knowledge.
