what is the most effective method of community involvement?

So the other day i was explaining to my mother and a couple of her friends what Puget Sound Off was.. in terms of the web site, and I had gotten a question from one of my mom's friends, she asked " How are you (as a PSO council member) getting the word out about this web site?" I started listing off some of the things that we are doing such as an advertisement that will be broadcast on channel 22 in August sometime.. also just word of mouth.. me telling all the people in my emailing list and them telling there friends and so on and of course having a PSO booth at Seattle events like bumbershoot and folk life handing out fliers and other information. i continued to explain about the website 247townhall and how they have the same concept but only national and not city/ community based. she commented that having a website that is more specific to our area makes a lot of sense to her, because nationally she has no clue how to solve a problem or even what problems there are nationally, but more locally she lives it everyday and can tell a million people what is wrong with her community. so my question before we start dipping into what the community issue is, lets look at how we can most effectively organize the community in to a collective movement for change. so having this sort of website is a start, right? having people just simply talk abut what ever. and then the next step would be to move.. so would a big meeting at a community center help or maybe getting people to gather at a already established movement like how every year we have a student walk-out protesting against the Iraq war and/ or the bush administration.. throw ideas around see what happens don't think about it just do  it!

Yea, having a gathering place to talk and share ideas and plan action...anywhere - here on puget sound off, it could be an extension of the corner near school or kitchen table.
The challenge i think is moving it from here to someone suggesting an action to take together.
