Fosters at risk

How many of you reading this right now, are a student of the foster care system or "aged out" or possibly you know someone who is a foster youth. How many of you have family members who are foster parents or are wards of the sate?

I am asking this because if you know me then you can say that you know a foster kid. I'm not here to tell you my sob story, but I am here to tell you that the system that is run by the government is not a system that you can call perfect, not even great!

My passion is to get the community behind me in taking a first step in making the difference in the thousands of youth of all ages all over the community. If you share my passion let me know! Almost all of the people I have asked "what is your looks on the foster care system?" the only answer that I received was "I don't know anything about the foster care system to have an opinion." all of the answers that I had gotten had revolved around this. If you want to help but don't know where to start or even what is wrong please start a comment conversation with me! I don't know everything but what I do know is strong. If you want to know about something that I don't know off the top of my head I can guarantee that I can find the answer. So that is where I am starting. I want to talk to anyone who is even slightly interested.

Just to name a few things that I personally want to improve generally is the fact that there is an extreme lack of funds offered for foster youth of every age. Also the fact that foster kids have become a stereotype! We are now a category along with "jock" and "goodie goodie" and it just so happens to be a category that is looked at all foster kids in a negative way.

These are the two main issues specificially to foster care system. Let me know about your concerns and questions!

thanks so much! well there are so many problems involved with the foster care system i really don't know where to start. i want to change the statistics about foster kids. for example more then 50% of foster kids end up not getting into collage, if they even graduate high school. i honestly don't know where to start. but i want foster kids to be looked at differently, in a good way. i want foster kids to have confidence that they can succeed in life. i have no clue how to go about this but i guess that's why i blogged about the issue in the first place.

Do you know any other people who would be interested in getting together and talking about this? A team of 4-7 would be great. That way there is a diversity of opinion when ideas are thrown out and there are enough people to really get stuff moving.

I can help teach you how to organize and make a difference. Do you think you could get a team together to get this going?

I would like to help you out with this. What do you think is the biggest problem and how do you want to change it?
