bellevue teachers strike

At the end of the last schoolyear i remeber having a big discussion about the problems that are occuring in the bellevue school district. One of my favorite teachers had a big discussion with our physics class about the strike, and how it probably wouldn't happen.

But here we are, the teachers have gone on strike. One of my best friend moms is a teacher and she explained to me how serious the situation was. We were originally supposed to start on tuesday but things don't look good.

Yesterday i got up to go support the teachers and make signs and go out into the streets with signs. and alot of people were supportive, but still there were those few who would boo or shake their heads at us.

Personally i got really mad when people did that, considering they aren't focused on the salary as much as they are focused on the best education for kids. they see the problem with the curriculum, and i have personally experienced how dumb the cirriculum. You don't even need a teacher to teach anymore, the books and computers just give you problems to solve. The district is limiting the teachers to what they say, and when they say it, and tell them exactly how to tech, and personally i beleve that every single one of my teachers can explain the facts better then any of our books.

some kids are freaking out because they believe that if we go on strike for too long, we won't get vacations, and some are rejoicing because we get yet more summer vacation. Personally i'm lovin' the sunshine, but if we have to take some days off of vacation, so be it. The teachers have to get thee way on this one, because they're fighting for the students.

I disagree with the whole public school systems in general because its so ineffective and not very innovative, not to mention very beauraeucratic.
I resent that its making the students lose out right now. Teaching is vital and it should be set up so that teachers can't strike during school session. Unlike the Boeing strike, there are human lives at stake, not pieces of machinery.
Its bizzare the teachers union cite strict adherrance to curricula as a reason. I really doubt thats as important to them as the cash flow. The point of public school teaching is to teach the basics and do what the state tells you to do(unless your name is NOVA).
It's naive to say they are fighting for students. puh-lease, Bellvue has the most active parents in the state when it comes to education. They stand up for the students like grizzly bear moms. Teachers are looking out for themselves, which I can totally respect if they'd be strait up about it.
